A.K.A. P.O.E. is hosted every summer in the month of August right before the new school year goes back into session. This four week summer camp is meant to educate, guide, and inspire neighborhood girls from low-income families... most from single parent homes and in some cases the absence of a biological parent.
We understand that partnership is everything and that raising children truly does take a village... especially when most of the children "WE" aim to serve have little to no parental involvement or model.
In partnership with each other, we create sustainable environments where vulnerable neighborhoods are able to compile resources and extend support where most needed. Partnerships create a bridge, enabling others to cross over and share in role of building resilient communities.
The Westry Mouton Project (Project) has established involvement and significant rapport with Jefferson County residents regarding various aspects of coaching, counseling, and developmental skills that place it in a unique position to address Neighborhood Resilience Building Plans.
Safety Event
City Manager, Police, Fire, and Emergency Response personnel would provide specific, detailed information regarding safety, appropriate tools, evacuation procedures/locations, means of transportation, means of communication, procuring emergency food/clothing/supplies, and be available for a Q&A session.
Medical/Mental Health Event
Doctors, health care professionals, pharmacists would address pro-active preparation for various health issues and provisions for life-essential medications, i.e., insulin, and for equipment, i.e., oxygen/dialysis, offer first aid/CPR/CERT training, and be available for a Q&A session.
Financial Literacy
FEMA officials, Red Cross personnel, insurance agents, bank/credit union administrators would explain their various
functions in explicit detail, making residents aware of practical measures that can be taken to offset devastating post-disaster effects, i.e., emergency savings, and flood insurance, and be available for a Q&A session.
Every summer these girls have a place to meet and participate in activities and programs that support their individual dreams and goals.
We are modeling for them and simultaneously adding value, increasing their self-esteem, and telling them that they have purpose and can reach beyond the stars, inspite what neighborhood they come from.
